Save the Date!

Hey everyone!

We have great news! Our troop has finally finalized the date for our official book release. It will be held at Magnolia Glen on Sunday, August 29th. We have not discussed times yet, but once we have those we will post them on here, Facebook, in the newspaper, notify by email, invitations, flyers, etc. We are so happy that we have finally reached this part of our project and are so much closer to releasing our beautiful tribute in order to raise lots of funds for the Abigail Grace Tsumas Memorial Foundation.

We are holding a fund raiser at Broad Street United Methodist Church on Friday, July 23rd. Our troop (with the help of troop parents) will be watching children ages 3-12 years old. We want parents to be able to go enjoy the entertainment of the "Friday after Five" concert in Downtown, Statesville or even just go dine and have a night to themselves. We will play games, eat dinner, do arts and crafts, and watch a movie with the children. It’s from 5 pm-10 pm. We will be charging $20 per child and $5 per additional sibling. It should be a blast and are really looking forward to lots of guests! Please email bushuser@aol.com or call Lucy Coarsey at 704.878.0465 if you are planning on sending your child or would be interested in helping.
Thanks everyone! Have a great week and thanks again for all of your support!

Final Touches

Hey everyone! We are so excited to share that the book is literally days away from going to the publishers. Even though all of us girls are traveling all over the place this summer vacation, we have been communicating and meeting diligently to put all of our final touches on Walking with Grace.

A few of us met with Hunter this morning to discuss details about the cover and other details that needed to be finalized to further prepare for her meeting with the publisher. Also, earlier this week we met with the Tsumas family to discuss some of the same details and get their approval on our work and receive ideas and opinions on other parts of the book and project. Addie has officially finished her illustrations and has done a phenomenal job on everything.

We are all so excited to be close to finally revealing the beautiful story of Grace and everlasting friendship. We will continue to keep you posted and thank you for your support!

Change in proceeds

Hi everyone! We have some updates for you!

We've had a recent change in where exactly our proceeds will be going. Instead of the proceeds going to the "Grace for Pets Foundation" they are instead going to the "Abigail Grace Tsumas Memorial Foundation". This foundation will be bigger then Grace for Pets and will be housed at the foundation of the Carolinas. It is anticipated that the AGTMF will fund "Grace For Pets" but will also be able to fund other causes. We have included the vision of the foundation here, and can be found on the left hand side labeled AGTMF Vision.

Additionally, we plan to release the book sometime in August. Addie, our illustrator is putting the final touches on our pages, but from what we've seen we are very excited about the finished product. Hunter Darden has helped us locate a publisher in Elkin, North Carolina that will be able to get the books published at a great rate and in a short time!

If you look to the right of this page you'll see the amount of people who have looked at our blog. The response has been unbeleivable and we are so blessed! Right now, we're depending on all of ya'll and word of mouth to get the word out about Walking with Grace, so make sure that you spread the word and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask for information right here!!

Oh yeah, we're official.

Hi everyone! thanks again for checking out the blog! We have some great news, the book is officially...a book! Our glorious advisor Hunter Darden has helped us secure a Library of Congress number. For all of you non-authors (which was us, not too long ago) that means that we can officially have Walking with Grace published!

Also, after many meetings and two sleepovers, we have finished our manuscript! We are meeting again soon to finalize it within our troop and to write some additional information. Our fabulous illustrator, Addie McElwee will also give us an update on her progress with the drawings! We hope to send the book in for publishing some time in June, more definite dates will be released as soon as possible.

Also, thank you for visiting this site! The support has been amazing and we are so excited so many have visited. An easy way to stay updated is by becoming a follower, and which notifies you whenever a new post is up. Troop members will also be posting facebook status' whenever we have a new post up! If you have any questions about the book you can leave a comment here and we will answer it as soon as we can! Thanks again for the support and spread the word!

Walking with Grace; the journey.

Hello! Thank you first of all, for taking the time and appreciation to look at our newly-formed blog. As we work on our Girl Scout Gold Award project we hope to keep everyone updated, whether we are simply brainstorming ideas or submitting our book,Walking with Grace, for publishing, our troop wants everyone to feel like a part of the process. Here is some background information about our project...

Walking with Grace was inspired by our dear friend and fellow girl scout Abigail Grace Tsumas, known to us as Abbey. Abbey passed away on October 31st, 2009 in a car accident and though she isn't with us now she is a constant inspiration to us in our day-to-day lives. There simply isn't a way to describe Abbey, she had a smile that could light up a room and a passion for life that could make anyone jealous. Abbey was the kind of friend who lifted you up when you were down and made you laugh until you cried.

As a memorial to our dear friend and fellow scout, our troop is writing and publishing a childrens book entitled Walking with Grace. The story of Walking with Grace is one of everlasting friendship, in which a girl has an influence over everyone she met, whether she knows them for 5 years or 5 minutes. Our vision for the book is that it captures the essence of Abbey's life and helps not only children but also adults realize the impact they can have on others.

All of the proceeds from the book will go to the Grace for Pets foundation, a foundation created in Abbey's memory. Inspired by Abbey's love of animals, especially dogs, the foundation raises money to help animals in need.

As we work on our project we want to keep everyone updated. We will post entries on this blog to let you know how the book is going and any events that might be coming up! So keep checking up on the blog and keep a look out for Walking with Grace!
